Where We Stayed: While in Seville, we stayed at the Hotel Rey Alfonso X. It had a great central location, the rooms were modern and had a good amount of space and the staff was very friendly. The only con was that the walls are paper thin and we could hear EVERYTHING going on in the hallway. Kind of annoying when the maids are chatting away at 8 in the morning! At 75 EUR/night we were pretty happy with our choice.
The view from our room (definitely suggest getting a room that faces this back courtyard as opposed to the busy street out front):
Our first day in Seville we didn’t have much of an agenda. We dropped our bags upon arrival and quickly made our way to the main plaza by the Cathedral. We met up with Nicole and plopped down in the sun where we caught up over tapas and Sangria. It was the perfect introduction to the city. We then just wandered around the city and made our way down to the river to watch the sunset. It was incredible how many people were out enjoying the day. They just sit right down on the riverbank, bring their own food and beverages and lounge.
We were just completely smitten with the cobblestone streets, rows of orange trees, the horse-drawn carriages and the crowds of people on every street and corner, living in the moment and enjoying the good life. I could really get used to the laid-back Spanish lifestyle!
On our walk back to our hotel we stumbled upon this processional happening in the streets. We couldn't figure out what was going on and felt rude asking. Any ideas?
MUCH more to come on our trip to Seville!

Seville looks gorgeous! Love those river shots. Looks to me like your mystery processional is probably a religious feast for a patron saint, or a Lent-related ceremony - it looks very Maltese!

ReplyDeleteI love Seville! Its such a beautiful city and lots to see and do!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous people & place!
ReplyDeleteNice pictures! The processional is definitely associated with Lent, we saw a similar one in Madrid around this time of year.
ReplyDelete110% need to get myself to Seville to see these beautiful places for myself soon - divine!
ReplyDeleteWow, this post makes me miss Europe so much! When I was living there Spain was my favorite place to travel, hands down. Seems like you had an amazing time, too!
ReplyDeleteOh, and you and Nicole look like you could be sisters. But I'm sure you've heard that before :-)
Oh my gosh it looks like you had an amazing time! I'm jealous of all that sun!
ReplyDeleteIt's very common to see processions in Spain throughout Lent leading up to Semana Santa (Holy Week). Beautiful post! Makes me miss Spain. I'm glad you enjoyed.

so beautiful! It makes me think of my weekend trip to Sevilla 5 years ago... I sat near the river near that same bridge! I remember buying roasted chestnuts and waiting in line to see the cathedral and the palace where Christopher Columbus's diary is! I'm glad you had a great trip!

ReplyDeletelovely photos! you are absolutely gorgeous :)
ReplyDeletethat looks so amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou've made Seville sound like the greatest place on earth, Liz. Not only are your pictures gorgeous, but your description really makes it sound like such a laid-back place. It sounds less tourist-y than say, Madrid. Originally, the boyfriend and I were planning to make Madrid one of the cities we visit when we go in May, but honestly, Seville just looks more like the type of city I want to visit. I can't wait to see more from your weekend there!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a while, and have never commented. I studied in Sevilla last spring for a semester and fell in LOVE with the city, the procession is a "practice" for Semana Santa [holy week processions] most likely. These "pasos" go out throughout the city all hours of the day and night during that whole week. In weeks leading up to it you'll see them occasionally through out the city! Love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteI just love all your pictures! What a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! It looks like you had a lovely time. I love the orange scarf you're wearing! Where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures - loving the atmosphere down by the river!
ReplyDeleteOh my your photos make me want to jump on the next flight out to Seville! How gorgeous!
ReplyDeletelooks like so much fun! gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos!
ReplyDeleteLOL at the hotel noise! When I went to Madrid, we could hear EVERYTHING in the room next door EVERY NIGHT! Umm.. awkward! haha x
Gaaah LOVE spain! You are making me want to go back so badly.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are so beautiful!
We had an amazing time on the Rappelling and Zip lining tour. Ender was a great guide; he didn't go too fast and he made sure that we all were doing good and were comfortable. Afterwards, we had a delicious home cooked meal. It was the best meal we had on our entire trip! We would definitely recommend this trip for anyone visiting Spain in the future by www.privatetoursinistanbul.com
