Ahhh St. Andrews. The funny thing about St. Andrews is
neither of us really knew anything about the town before actually visiting it.
We’d heard great things – that it was stunning – but nothing in specific. We
had no idea it was right on the water, completely forgot Will & Kate met at
the University there, didn’t know anything about the gorgeous Abbey... So to
say that upon arrival we were blown away is a complete understatement. We also
happened to strike major luck with a gorgeous day in March. There was nothing
but blue skies and pleasant 65-degree weather. We were in heaven!
Since we were on a tour that dropped us off for a few hours
we didn’t get as much time to explore as we would’ve liked. We strolled along
the beach, walked on the famous golf course, checked out the University’s
campus and of course visited the Abbey (my camera died right before we got
there!!). We sort of had to rush through everything because we were in a time
crunch and as we were walking along the North Sea with the sun shining in our
eyes and the seagulls singing above us we decided we must, must, must return
one day. It’s a magical place and one that I highly recommend anyone and
everyone adds to their travel list!

OOOH St. Andrews!!! LOVE that place!! I visited, like you hurriedly, about 10 years ago. I was studying abroad in Edinburgh and we stopped their quickly for a short day trip! My taxi driver told me I sat in the same seat as the Prince, and I just about died!(I know gullible Texan-what can I say!) ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, love your blog!

St. Andrews is the ONE place in Scotland we've not been yet! (Okay, there are other places, but it's top of the "next" list!) Gorgeous day, I love the pictures! The North Sea is my favorite- although I hope you got to see it on a dark-grey sky day, too- that's when it's at it's most mysterious!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteWow gorgeous pics Liz! I think I was there in August one year and it was about 60 degrees...yes in AUGUST. Thanks for the reminder of how beautiful Scotland is! :). The pics of the cemetary on the cliff are amazing!

ReplyDeleteLovely photos!! We just got back from a trip to the UK and were in St. Andrew's last week. We went specifically so my husband, a golf fanatic, could play the Old Course. While he was playing I explored the town and I, like you, was blown away. It's gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your pics! If you get a chance to go back, definitely check out the Jigger Inn restaurant on the 17th hole. It's legendary!

ReplyDeleteI had a whirlwind tour of St Andrew's as well a few years ago - except it was fuh-REE-zing. I had grand plans of making Wills fall in love with me, dumping Kate and making me a princess but I guess it's no secret how that turned out ...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! We didn't get to the beach, I didn't realise it was so pretty.
