{If You Really Knew Me...}

{photo taken by the huz in Santorini}

I've seen a couple of these posts flying around the blogosphere and really enjoyed learning more about some of my favorite bloggers! Thought I'd share some of my own. Hope you enjoy getting to know me a little better :)

If you really knew me...
…you’d know I wasn’t a morning person. Talk to me after my cup of coffee :)
…you’d know I worry like crazy. Even though I know it can’t help a situation I worry about everything big or small.
…you’d know I love to plan. Vacations, my life, parties, what we’ll eat for dinner this week. Anything.
…you’d know I don’t eat beef or pork.
…you’d know I can speak Romanian (my parents met in Romania - I was actually the first person in my family born in the US!).
…you’d know I am ridiculously excited to have babies, but that we are going to fully embrace our European adventure before trying for any!
…you’d know I talk to my mom every day. It’s really rare that I miss a day and I wouldn’t have it any other way – I look forward to our chats so much!
…you’d know that I can be pretty hard on myself. I expect a lot of myself and sometimes hold myself to unrealistic standards, which can then make me feel bad. Luckily I have a husband who snaps me out of it and makes me feel like I’m perfect just the way I am.
…you’d know I have a major sweet tooth. I need to eat something sweet after every meal, even if it’s just a piece of fruit.
…you’d know I am crazy obsessed with Henry. I think it scares Corey a little bit.
…you’d know I get hangry pretty easily. Seriously, you don’t want to talk to me if I haven’t eaten!
…you’d know that I love giving advice and people often come to me to get it – from boy problems to job questions, I always have an open ear and usually some words of wisdom to pass along.
…you’d know I suffered from depression in high school and it altered my life in (what I see now) a very good way.
...you’d know that I daydream about doing more with my photography, but that I doubt myself so much I’m not sure I ever will.
…you’d know that even though I can be loud and goofy most social situations really give me anxiety. I hate meeting new people and speaking in front of crowds, but if you know me in real life you’d probably be shocked to hear this (my family is even surprised when I tell them). I work really hard to not let my anxiety keep me from doing things and meeting people. I’d consider myself an introvert.
...you'd know that even after 3+ years I still feel shy talking about my blog with friends and family. If you don't have a blog you just don't "get it" and it's really awkward trying to explain why I put my life out there on the internet!

Now, if I really knew you, what would I know? I'd love to hear! Share a link in the comments if you've done this or plan on doing it - I love getting to know more about my readers!

  1. Wow! I can relate to so many of these! Planner/sweet tooth/shy in front of big crowds. My little mind's churning now..I think I'll have to make one of these lists :). Loved reading this!

  2. I love this idea! Most people who think they know me think that I love to party it up, but that couldn't be further from the truth - I'm a total homebody and more comfortable with a book than dancing in the clubs.

  3. I enjoyed reading this! I am with you on the HS depression. Glad we both have overcame it. Reading this, I realized we are so similar! Love that! Have a good day girl !!

(I'm a huge worrier too, I can't help it. I also feel you on the hangry, planning, anxiety and feeling shy about blogging. It's always nice to know there are other people out there who feel the same.)

  10. Oh Liz, you are a sweet soul. This post was so vulnerable and beautiful. I see we have a lot of things in common. As easy at is for people, or ourselves to say worrying wont change the outcome - we cant help but worry!

The best way I know how to turn things around, and relieve some anxiety is this great quote that has spoken to me: "thanking god (being grateful) in our trials, turns burdens into blessings." I believe gratitude is the key to happiness. You have made your life so beautiful & I am certain it will blossom even more.

    Love,
    Stephanie

  11. I love these posts -thanks for sharing :) And yes - do something with your photography skills because they are THERE! And honestly, I still get shy about sharing my blog with friends and family too. I don't even have my blog link on my personal Facebook account.

  12. So funny about friends/family with your blog. I feel the exact same way. I also talk to my Mom every day, if not multiple times a day. It's funny how your parent (s) becomes one of your best friends.

  13. Such a great posts, I find it so interesting to find out more about my favorite bloggers because sometimes there is so much we don't know about people. I know I've told you before, but I just love following you and Corey's time in Europe, I seriously show my husband your blog all the time and am like seriously let's pack up and move overseas! We're in the same phase where we don't have kids yet so I kind of feel like now is the time! Also, you should TOTALLY pursue photography because you have amazing skills...seriously, I'm always blown away by your beautiful photos!

  14. Loved this, Liz. Especially the point on your Henry obsession scaring your husband. It's the same way in our house! ;P My friends tend to come to me for advice and wisdom, too... that makes me think you and I would be really good friends in real life, for some reason. :)

  17. liz,
reading this makes me wish even more that our plans last winter in paris didn't fall through! i'd love to sit with you over a chocolat chaud and share our thoughts about living in europe, about holding ourselves to high standards, about obsessing over one-day babies, about being married to the most amazing men in the world... i think we have similar souls...
and then, i would tell you that your fears shouldn't hold you back from being a photographer... you truly, truly have an amazing eye and a talent, and i don't say that often... i find inspiration in the way that you see and capture the world, particularly travel photography. if you want someone to talk to about how to take your photographer further, email me, i'd love to help support this dream.
    love, r.
ps. i think there is a more permanent move back to europe in our future, so perhaps we will get to meet soon after all... xx.

  18. I can relate to just about everything you said! Planning EVERYTHING, worrying, feeling a bit insecure about talents, being introverted, previous depression leading to joy...It feels good to know there are people like me in the world!

  21. Love this! This is random, but I started reading your blog when my friend Lisa (who knows you from college I think) told me about it, and I love your photography. I'm assuming you speak/understand Romanian because your mom is from there? My mom is from Romania too :)

  33. i get really anxious in social situations but i don't think anyone realises until i tell them. i used to be really bad but over the years i have forced myself and it has made it so much better--sometimes it is better to jump in with both feet :)

and i can't mention my blog, i go bright red, mumble something about it not being that great and then want to hide.

  34. I can relate to a lot of these! I love how candid you are, which can be difficult to do.

  35. Thanks so much for sharing. I can relate to so many of these. Close friends are always surprised when I tell them I get anxious in large social gatherings. And I haven't mentioned my blog to friends and family yet. I'm not sure why either since I love doing it so much. Thanks for sharing with all of us. I love reading your blog.

  37. Oh I get hangry too and when I do... watch out because I'm like a whirlwind of nasty. I really need to carry snacks in my purse.
And I'm so impressed with the Romanian! How do you know Romanian? My ex was from Bucharest and that's one hard language to crack :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. you and I have a LOT in common! I literally laughed out loud at the "hangry" one... that's so me! my family and friends are all aware of the dangers of my hangry-ness. I keep a protein bar and a bag of almonds in my purse just to make sure I dont snap at anyone :) and, I too think my husband is a little concerned about my love and obsession with our dog Ziggy... he has definitely turned me into a crazy-dog-lady... and I dont care! haha

  41. I LOVE this. Know why? Because it breaks down the barriers of the "perfect lives" bloggers can sometimes put up.

In fact, I just did it on my own blog - www.LivingPortlandBlog.com

    Hope all is well!

  42. Loved this post, especially that last one! I understand completely. I have the most trouble explaining my blogging to my parents/their generation because blogging is this new, foreign phenomenon to them that just doesn't make sense.

I definitely plan to do this post at some point in the near future!

  43. Love this post! I'm totally the same about the sweet tooth - gotta finish a meal off with something sweet ;)

  47. Hi Liz! We share so many things in common. I too have lived as an Expat abroad, however, I was in the Middle East: Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar and Iraq. I have travelled throughout Germany, Amsterdam and Switzerland and would really love to live in Italy! Anyways, I see that you don't eat beef so try my amazing new Shepherd's Pie recipe, Sans Beef! http://bit.ly/QhFwAG

  49. I know this is a late comment, but I love these posts that bloggers do. I love when people show that they're normal people too and not everything in life is picture perfect (although your photos are stunning! :). I also can relate to a few, especially needing coffee in the morning to be nice and the fact that people who don't blog just don't get it. Even if I'm not huge in the blog world, I love knowing that the support is out there. All of you ladies are fabulous!
